Sculpture II Curriculum

Drafted: Spring 2014

Mediums & Tools

Sculpture II primarily deals with the construction of objects in a variety of media and achieving quality design in three dimensions. The work should be primarily formal in nature.  Each experience with a different material should end with the production of a finished piece. Through the artistic process the students should get multiple opportunities to use the material and its associated tools. Safety and learning how to properly maintain and operate tool associated with the construction methods is imperative.

Materials

  • Wire
  • Foam Core
  • Plaster
  • Chip board
  • Wood
  • Found object
  • Fiber

Tools

  • Various hand tools (ie.. Pliers)
  • Various Power tools (Jigsaw, Chop Saw, Drill)
  • Xacto Blades
  • Sewing machine

Techniques and Skills

Each of these techniques and skills must be covered in the Sculpture II experience. Keep in mind that some techniques and skills work better with different construction methods (for example: Foam core with Planner Sculptures). Demonstration and understanding of these techniques and skills will be reflected in the student’s portfolio. The students will also understand the appropriate artistic process from drawing, to maquette, to finished product.

Portfolio

The portfolio in sculpture II is designed to show a student’s experience with the media, techniques and skills stated above. All of the specific projects below must be represented in the portfolio. Any medium or technique may be use to complete these projects. The students need to build a physical, digital or e-portfolio to represent the work completed in Sculpture II.

  • One Linear Sculpture
  • One Planer Sculpture
  • One Geometric Form Sculpture
  • One Organic Form Sculpture
  • One Soft Sculpture
  • One Found Objects Sculpture
